SWSC Offers Scholarships for STCC Online Water Operator Course

Changing careers, or starting new? Interested in a challenging, evolving, and in-demand career serving your community? Drinking water treatment operators are currently in high demand, and enjoy a hands-on work environment with good pay and full benefits. (Not to mention job security - everyone always needs clean, safe water!) And now, there's even more reason to consider becoming a water treatment operator (read on!)...

Drinking water treatment operators must complete required coursework in order to obtain a license from the state. This coursework is now available in online format through a partnership with Springfield Technical Community College (STCC), the Massachusetts Water Works Association, and the Commission. Registration is open until January 15, 2021 for Concepts and Practices of Basic Drinking Water Treatment Online Training, which runs February 8 - April 16, 2021.

Even better? The course is FREE to any student enrolled in a community college in Massachusetts. Not a current student? The course is also available for $829 plus the cost of books ($139) to anyone interested in embarking on a new career.

New! The Commission is now offering three scholarships to cover the cost of tuition and books to residents of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, or Berkshire Counties. More information about becoming a drinking water treatment plant operator and how to apply for the scholarship is available here.
