Becoming An Approved Contractor

DigSafeMessageThe Commission maintains a list of approved Contractors to perform various types of services, including:

  • Installation and repair of water mains
  • Installation and repair of hydrants
  • Installation and repair of valves and other appurtenances
  • Installation and maintenance of bypass piping
  • New service installations, replacement services and cut offs
  • Installation, repair, cleaning, and jetting of sewer mains
  • Installation, repair, and rehabilitation of manholes
  • Repairs to sewer services
  • Video inspection and analysis of sewer mains
  • Excavation, backfilling, compaction, and/or surface restoration

If you are interested in becoming a Commission-Approved Contractor, please follow these steps:

  • Complete the Commission Approved Contractor Application Form.
  • Provide proof of required bonding as described in the application.
  • Provide proof of required insurance as described in the application.
  • Provide descriptions of past projects, including references, as described in the application.
  • Sign and date the Indemnity Form, which is included as the last page of the application.
  • Submit the completed application package to the Commission’s Operations Center to the attention of Dawn Downer in person or by mail:

The approval period is in effect for 3 years. The application fee for new contractors is $250.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE: All companies who become Commission Approved Contractors must also apply with the Engineering Division of Springfield’s Department of Public Works to become a Licensed Contractor.  Apply at 70 Tapley St, Springfield MA. Call 413-787-6584. This MUST be done before any excavation in the City of Springfield can begin. Failure to apply to the DPW may result in suspension or revocation of Commission Approved Contractor Status.

Renewal:

After 3 years, the Contractor must resubmit an application form to continue as a Commission-Approved Contractor. The application fee for renewal is $100.

  • Complete the Commission Approved Contractor RENEWAL Form.
  • Provide proof of required bonding as described in the application.
  • Provide proof of required insurance as described in the application.
  • Sign and date the Indemnity Form, which is included as the last page of the application.
  • Submit the completed application package to the Commission’s Operations Center to the attention of Dawn Downer in person or by mail:
