Residential Leak Detection Program

The Commission’s Customer Service staff review accounts on a continual basis. An account with a usage history that fluctuates +/ – 2,000 cubic feet from month to month is flagged for review. In most cases, a customer service representative will notify you that there is an abnormal high usage on the account. If you have received a phone call or a notice from us, please contact our Customer Operations Center immediately at 413-310-3501 to conduct an investigation for leaks.

The Commission provides these services to prevent large water losses and high water bills from an undetected leak.

The inspection for leaks will include a visual inspection of the following:

  • Meter
  • Sprinkler Valve
  • Hose Spigot
  • Toilets
  • Shower Heads
  • Bathroom/Kitchen Fixtures

The Commission will perform the first leak detection audit free of charge. Additional audits for the same account may be charged $75 per visit.

It is the responsibility of the owner to repair the leaks that are detected as a result of this investigation. In many cases, the cost of the repair will be offset by the reduction in future water bills.
