Projects
Riverside Road Water Main Improvements

On behalf of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission (Commission), Baltazar Construction will be repairing a section of 36-inch water main on Riverside Drive, between Newland Street and Washburn Street in Springfield. The project is scheduled to begin on January 27, 2025 and continue through May 2025. Typical work hours are Monday – Friday, 7 AM-4 PM, weather dependent.

To perform necessary repair work and for the safety of pedestrians, vehicular traffic, and construction crews, Riverside Road between Newland and Washburn Streets will be closed and surrounding detours will be in place. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be managed with posted signs and barriers.

Traffic impacts are as follows:

  • Riverside Road between Newland and Orchard Streets will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project, approximately three months.
  • Orchard Street will temporarily open to two-way traffic but will dead-end at Riverside Road. Current parking regulations on Orchard Street will remain in effect.
  • Newland Street at Riverside Road: Right turn only.
  • Washburn Street at Riverside Road: Left turn only.
  • Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
  • Access to Riverside Road properties between Newland and Washburn Streets will be maintained for residents.

This emergency repair project is being completed on a section of 36-inch water main that is over 60 years old and has been identified for failing infrastructure. The repair project is necessary to help safeguard critical water infrastructure and service reliability in the area. No impacts to water service are expected as part of the project. Upon completion of construction this spring, paving and restoration of the project trench zone will be completed.
